One of the habits Iām trying to cultivate is that my bed is used just for sleeping - no doom scrolling or eating my breakfast while still in my pjs; no reading until I lose track of time, and definitely no snoozing my alarm. Another reason why I shouldnāt work or do anything on my bed during the day? Iām prone to napping and that really messes up my sleep schedule. Itās amazing how many of the rules that helped us as babies still applies. But sometimes habits are meant for breaking, like lying on my bed of a Sunday afternoon writing this edition of Weekend Bites. I just need to remember to not fall asleep laterā¦

Out of curiosity, whatās a song that immediately makes you think of chill Spring or Summer afternoons?
Speaking of chill, Iām such a fan of
ās largely new Substack newsletter called āItāll be fun, they said.ā I loved reading her book āSorry Iām late, I didnāt want to comeā and have followed her on Instagram ever since. If you like Gilmore Girls, cozy bookstores and good writing, then go read Jessā newsletter. You know that motivational quote that goes, what would you do if you knew you werenāt going to fail? Well, I imagine behaving like that would feel a lot like this guy and his friends who made up a fake restaurant only to create a real restaurant for one night with a 3000 person waitlist. Iām jealous of the gumption and audacity.
I took a nap yesterday afternoon and couldnāt sleep, so I finished reading āGreta and Valdinā by Rebecca K Reilly on my phone until 2am while my husband tried to sleep beside me. NZ fiction often has a reputation for being a bit grim, so I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this book. āGreta and Valdinā is wonderfully funny, light, and relatable. I loved that so much of it was set in Auckland, a place I currently call home. Sometimes I wonder if itās ever possible to write a book that couldāve been set somewhere more exciting like New York, London or Barcelona but have it all happen in a suburb like Avondale. It turns out you can (although some of the plot of Greta and Valdin does happen in Argentina, but donāt hold that against it).
Iāve rediscovered the Libby app and it is encouraging my worst habits, namely borrowing too many library books and then renewing them ad infinitum. It makes it so much easier than physically borrowing books because I can return, renew and put items on hold with only a few pushes of a button. As my husband has started saying recently, āweāre eating good.ā
I canāt tell if this is good or not but I kind of just want someoneās wig to fall off.
I love a good Answer in Progress video. This time, they investigate skin routines and cleanliness. I also really enjoyed their video about mechanical keyboards, a sensation that was absolutely sweeping the internet at the time the video was made. Not going to lie, learning more about it did make me want to buy a completely unnecessary but cool new keyboard.
