We’re visiting my parents-in-law and I’m envious of their green coloured living room set. Everything is faded but well-made. Like anything new, it’s taken me a while to feel completely comfortable in their home, but it’s now become a place where I feel like I can truly rest. I don’t have all my “stuff” around me and life is more simple here. There are rhythms to the day that I feel lacking in my own chaotic life (or should I say brain). Being here reminds me of what a salve a ‘kept’ home is - one that is tidy, clean and organised. My whare is laughably the opposite of that. Well… I’m gonna enjoy it while I can! Which is this weekend. Speaking of the weekend, here are some links for you.
Listen to this as you read the newsletter:
I was reminded this week that the Waitress musical soundtrack exists. With music written by Sara Bareilles (who also starred in it), it’s such a good album to listen to, even if you’ve never seen the musical or the film (starring Kerri Russell) that it’s based on. All you need to know is that it’s about a waitress who bakes pies and is trying to figure her life out.
Below is my favourite song from the musical. Kimiko Glenn is so good!
The next time you go to Scotland, you can now stay in a replica of Shrek’s cottage.
Olivia Rodrigo is killing it with her new album, Guts. I would have baked this album in a pie and devoured it WHOLE as a teen or young adult. It’s still scratching a nerve at 30+. Especially ‘bad idea right’ and ‘get him back.’
This is going to quite a music heavy Weekend Bites it turns out. If you’re not on Tiktok, you might not be aware of what a chokehold this song has on the platform’s users. It’s not just the song though. Sticking with its dance video roots, Tiktok users have been salivating over the choreography in Jungle’s latest single, ‘Back on 74.’ Particularly this bit. I can’t say I blame them.
Another song I’ve been loving this week is Troye Sivan’s ‘Got me started.’ Just like his other single, ‘Rush,’ it’s has been doing well on the clock app due to its musical hooks and choreography. I won’t share Rush here because it’s not exactly safe for work. But feel free to google it… later.
Finally, Alan Moore urges writers to read terrible books too. This isn’t a terrible book, but I’m currently reading Less Is Lost by Andrew Sean Greer. I do wish it was better though.
That’s all for this Weekend Bites. Have a nice musical Sunday! Listen to this:
You can't actually stay in Shrek's swamp, it's just a Halloween competition I think. There's no days available.
