#13 Weekend Bites đȘ
Unrealistic house inspo and the seven types of rest you need
Hi, itâs been a while hasnât it? What happened? Well, I changed jobs, I made room for more rest, I lost the spark of inspiration. But itâs kind of back now, sooooo⊠hereâs another Weekend Bites *bows politely*.
Listen to this as you read the newsletter:
Beabadoobee to my heart
I was aware of Beabadoobee before but now Iâm aware of Beabadoobee. Her cover of âSwayâ by Bic Runga for Triple Jâs Like a Version is chefâs kiss.
Reunion-ing
Iâm in love with Stella Blackmonâs short films. Here is a scrappy (her words not mine) four-part series of her extended familyâs reunion in the Ozarks, all edited into one Wes Anderson-esque video.
Unrealistic house inspo
First up - Corte della Maestra, an art-filled former palace only accessible by foot. Paolo Crepet and Cristiana Melisâ residence and boutique hotel is a wonderful antidote to the plain walls and basic furnishings I see in a lot of modern homes. I mean, it is an Italian palace, so not exactly an attainable aesthetic, but I love the combo of art styles, textures, materials and weird pieces of art that still feel unified. I wouldnât want to live in it but boy is it nice to look at.
Now, something I would like to live in is Haidee Beckerâs house. I remember first seeing this article about Beckerâs home and immediately thinking âhouse goals.â Itâs calm, beautiful, and pleasantly cluttered with interesting furniture, art, plants and books. I would move in in a heartbeat.

Doechii queeeeeeen
Hands down the best performance at the Grammyâs goes to Doechii and her team. The choreography, precision, music arrangement - everything was so incredibly on point that I felt like I was watching a piece of musical theatre. Canât wait to see more from her.
Getting more rest
According to this article, there are seven types of rest that you need. Thatâs right, seven. Apparently sleep alone doesnât cut it. This was news to me⊠BUT after reading the article, it makes total sense. Rest isnât just the act of sleep. Itâs also a practice of restoration, one thatâs required in multiple areas of your life. For me, I probably need more sensory and social rest, such as time spent away from devices and noise. Like many of us, I tend to use screen time as a way to unwind from work but (surprise) itâs another form of stimulation and maybe what I really need is a nice quiet room with a book or a walk outside.
Iâd be interested to know what types of rest you think you could do more of in the comments if you feel like sharing.
How many clothes do we actually need?
From minimalists to episodes of Hoarders, the actual number of clothes you âneedâ can fluctuate quite a lot. This Vogue article was quite helpful because it shared a) how many items of clothing people typically had in the past, and b) the maximum number of new items you should be buying to keep global warming under 1.5C (itâs five by the way). Completing a No Buy Year in 2024 certainly helped a lot when it came to curbing my clothing purchases, but I think an overall attitude/perspective change is whatâs required to make a sustainable long-term difference in my wardrobe. What do you think? Do you buy more than five new items of clothing a year? I bought four tops at the op shop the other day, so I wonder how that factors into things as well. Thoughts and opinions welcome.
Thatâs it for this weekend. Itâs nice to be back!
Iâve been learning Japanese again, so hereâs something a bit different for your weekend listening:
